RESTON, Va. (SES PR) – The U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao has appointed SES Government Solutions’ Senior Director of Business Development Paul E. Damphousse to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee (COMSTAC), SES announced today.
The COMSTAC provides executive-level observations, findings and recommendations to the FAA Administrator regarding critical issues within the commercial space industry. Damphousse will serve as a senior industry representative and member of COMSTAC on behalf of SES GS, wholly-owned subsidiary of SES, and will advise the government during bi-annual COMSTAC meetings and through participation on the COMSTAC working groups.
The National Space Society is once again looking for an new Executive Director following the resignation of Paul Damphousse, who led the non-profit advocacy group for just over a year.
In a letter to the NSS Board of Directors, the former Marine pilot indicated he had unspecified conflicts with members of the governing structure, Space News reports.
“During the last year in this role it has become abundantly clear, however, that as long as elements of the existing leadership of the NSS continue to pursue courses of action — and perpetuate an atmosphere — that are not in the best interests of the Society, the challenges the organization face will become insurmountable,” Damphousse wrote. “For both professional and personal reasons, I have decided to pursue other opportunities.”
January 16, 2013 (FSDC PR) — The Florida Space Coast Chapter of the National Space Society (NSS) has changed its name to the Florida Space Development Council (FSDC) to better reflect the group’s focus on assisting the development of a robust space-related economy in the state.
The FSDC will remain an active chapter of the NSS, working with other Florida chapters to support the NSS mission to promote social, economic, technological, and political change in order to expand civilization beyond Earth.
Washington, DC (NSS PR) — On Thursday, May 3, Stephen Colbert will be presented with the National Space Society’s 2012 Space Pioneer Award for Mass Media on his popular show, The Colbert Report, on the Comedy Central cable network. The award will be presented by Apollo XI astronaut Buzz Aldrin, a member of the NSS Board of Governors and friend of Colbert’s.
“We are very pleased to present this award to Colbert in recognition of his unceasing promotion of space tourism, space development, NASA programs, and the use of private enterprise for better access to space, all of which are supported by the National Space Society,” said Paul E. Damphousse, NSS Executive Director. “By frequently interviewing astronauts, space entrepreneurs and scientists on his program, he has demonstrated that it is possible to inform the public on serious space topics in a comedic setting.”
The National Space Society (NSS) is proud to announce that Lt. Col. Paul E. Damphousse USMC (Ret) has been named Executive Director effective January 1, 2012. The appointment of Lt. Col. Damphousse coincides with the 25th anniversary of the 1987 merger of the National Space Institute (NSI) and the L5 Society to form the National Space Society.
