Colbert has done a great job of turning his love of space into fun television. Tek Jansen will always be a great astronaut!

I suspect the real rovers will end up having Tesla Semi and pickup drive trains, semi for the heavy lifting, you are going to need a large utility vehicle for a colony even if its most of a cargo ship- chomper variant.

Very likely, and judging from their concept art they may model the cab/hab on NASA’s SEV. This concept continues in their latest concept art, depicting the 3-fin BFS. Could do worse.

This vehicle triggers me every time it shows up in the press because it’s always misrepresented.

I would like the press to stop calling this a “prototype”. It’s nothing of the sort. It’s a prop that was made by a company that makes movie props (and other custom vehicles). It’s not based on any sort of actual engineering that would go into a Mars vehicle.

Except maybe the wheels, if one line of tread goes you could modify tge design to be able to rotate to another set, have to get out and do it off course. But it needs an airlock and it is wasting volume to be aerodynamic in an incredibly thin atmosphere…

Fun video; I liked the Star Trek “bumpy ride” part near the end!

I read that the vehicle (the ‘MRCV’ as it’s called) is electric powered, nice. Now only if they can figure out how to fit it inside Orion…
