Is this a preview of future recoveries?

  • duheagle

Quite likely. Terrific footage in any event.

  • Mr Snarky Answer

Makes you wonder how they got it? No transmitter on the fairing AFAIK.

  • duheagle

Seems likely they got it by recovering the fairing half and downloading off the GoPro in the nose.

  • MarcVader

They recovered this half of the fairing used on the SES-10 mission, including its cameras.

  • JamesG

Too bad it doesn’t show the full rentry and decent.

  • Larry J

Perhaps they didn’t want to show proprietary technology just yet. If that’s the case, I can’t say I blame them.

  • WhoAmI

Is that the first stage firing all 9 merlins to slow down for reentry in the upper left corner? There appear to be 9 petals of gas coming out the back. Didn’t think it would be the sun due to refraction of light in space, but could be left over exhaust of 1st stage with sun behind. It is close to the position expected for the sun, though possibly a bit low. Shadowing on the fairing and the reflection on earth also make it look like the sun, but the sun could be lined up and just out of sight (left of frame of view).

  • JamesG

No its the sun. The refraction is from the lens of the camera. At that distance, if the F9 were burning right at the fairing, it would be getting visibly buffeted by the exhaust gases.

  • WhoAmI

    Yeah… probably right.

  • JamesG

Would have been bitchin’ if it were though. Even a sight of the 2nd stage burning away from the fairing would be.
