The head of Roscosmos said at a press conference this week operation of the  International Space Stations could be extended an additional four years.

Russia is open to extending its partnership in the International Space Station with the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada beyond the currently planned end of the program in 2024, the head of the Russian space agency said on Tuesday.

“We are ready to discuss it,” Igor Komarov, general director of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, told reporters at the U.S. Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, when asked if his country would consider a four-year extension….

Komarov said many medical and technological issues remain to be resolved before humans travel beyond the station’s orbit.

“I think that we need to prolong our cooperation in low-Earth orbit because we haven’t resolved all the issues and problems that we face now,” Komarov said.

I thought (no I never really did) that the Russians would build their planned space station on the Moon using their planned Federation spacecraft on their planned super heavy launcher from their planned new cosmodrome. Actions are very different from talk in Russian space. I think that in a couple of years from now, Russia will have no ability to launch its own cosmonauts, but will buy seats from SpaceX or China. With the ambition to remain at least a small participant on the ISS, until it is deorbited and Russian space program completely ceases to exist.

The Russian people is very proud of their space accomplishments, it was given relative priority even during the collapse of the Soviet. That Russian space ambitions now soon are completely abolished in a mist of corruption, incompetitiveness and fake news talk, might become a political problem for czar Putin.

Another news site says Russia is threatening to leave ISS and take its modules with them. I can never figure out what Russia is really planning to do.

The Russians are big talkers and also big drinkers. Someone once said that strong drink “gives one the inclination, but takes away the ability.” Sex was the topic of consideration in that case, but I think it very much applies to space activity as well.

As to what Russia is actually going to do next, another old saying – at least in my old stomping grounds of Northern Michigan – comes to mind. “If you know what a bear is going to do next, you know more than he does.”

Russia seems addicted to salving the unpleasant reality of its current – and still declining – low estate through braggadocio and self-pleasing fantasy. What it always seems to wind up doing, though, is coming around and rattling the alms cup.

“I think that we need to prolong our cooperation in low-Earth orbit because we haven’t resolved all the issues and problems that we face now,” Komarov said.

    You said it, Bub.

I’d love to see some of the old guard use some of those same tactics on Putin.

Isn’t the conservative president doing it right now?
Strangling Putin in order to make him/it cooperate on North Korea. I think the DJ Trump will dismantle North Korea in order to become an image of Reagan tearing down this wall. We’ll see how that works out. Does anyone have a hard hat for sale? It could all work out well too! It’s up to one of those coin tosser machines.
