The long-time board member was defeated in her bid for re-election in November, resulting in her leaving the body last month. However, the candidate who defeated her, Michael Hill, had been killed in a plane crash less than two weeks before the election, creating a vacancy on the five-member body.
Officials say three people applied to fill Hill’s open seat, but Painter was the only one who was eligible. The other two candidates did not live within the Mojave Air and Space Port’s district, which includes Mojave and California City.
The vote was unanimous. Painter will serve a two-year term.
