X Prize Foundation Cashes in 10th Anniversary of SpaceShipOne Flights

Peter Diamandis

The X Prize Foundation has found several ways to cash in on the 10th anniversary of the winning of the $10 million Ansari X Prize next week.

In addition to offering $2,500 tickets to the anniversary luncheon next Saturday in Mojave, the organization has organized an exclusive four-day, $40,000 per person tour around the event.

“Take confidence in the fact that XPRIZE Chairman, Peter Diamandis, is personally curating these four days to make it one of the most extraordinary trips of your life!” the X Prize’s exclaims!

Taking a look at the itinerary, I’m not so sure about that. The all-expenses paid for only $40K package includes:

  • a welcome dinner in Los Angeles on Oct. 1;
  • tours of SpaceX and Jet Propulsion Laboratory on Oct. 2;
  • zero gravity parabolic flights aboard the G-FORCE ONE aircraft on Oct. 3;
  • trip to Mojave on Oct. 4 with tours of the Mojave Air and Space Port, Scaled Composites, Virgin Galactic and The Spaceship Company.

There will be no slumming in a luxury coach up Highway 14 for this crowd. They’re going back and forth to Mojave via private jet.

This schedule indicates that Zero Gravity Corporation’s G-FORCE ONE has new engines and is flying again. The company that had leased engines for Zero-G’s Boeing 727 had repossessed them back in June after its management contract ended.
