ATLANTA, GA (GO PR) — Generation Orbit Launch Services, Inc. (GO) has successfully passed a major project milestone in the development of its GOLauncher 2, a dedicated nanosatellite launch vehicle. The GOLauncher 2 System Requirements Review was completed on Thursday January 23rd, 2014.
Members of the GO team gathered in Atlanta to conduct the review, including representatives from SpaceWorks, Calspan, Aerojet Rocketdyne, Ventions, Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems, and mv2space. The goals of the review included assessing the team’s performance and functional requirements for the system, the current design status, the overall GOLauncher program plan, and the program’s current risk posture.
After a thorough presentation and analysis, members of the review board agreed that exit criteria for the review had been met, enabling work to begin on the next phase of the project.
“Passing this early milestone continues to build our momentum as we press forward with the development of GOLauncher 2,” commented Generation Orbit’s CEO, Dr. John Olds. “2013 was a successful and exciting year at GO, and 2014 is already off to a fast-paced start. The team has continued to grow together and develop the levels of confidence and interaction necessary to complete this project over the next few years.”
The review also marked a milestone under the NASA Enabling eXploration and Technology (NEXT) contract, awarded to GO in September, 2013. Under NEXT, GO will launch a group of three 3U CubeSats to a 425 km orbit. The NEXT mission is slated for the first flight of GOLauncher 2 to be completed before the end of 2016. Members of the NASA team were present at the review to observe the GO team’s progress toward the NEXT flight.
“Successful completion of this milestone continues to pave the way towards the launch service procured as part of the NEXT contract,” commented the NASA Launch Service Program (LSP). “This first flight for NASA’s Launch Services Program is an exciting step towards enabling the emerging commercial and Government small sat market.”
