Parabolic Arc would like to extend a warm welcome to Virgin Galactic’s future astronauts, a group of whom will visiting Mojave next Wednesday morning for what is sure to be a great show on the ground and in the skies.
The weather forecast: mostly sunny with a high temperature of 76 degrees F (24.4 degrees C) and zero chance of rain. Perfect flying weather. And watching weather. Now, it might be a little cooler when you arrive in the morning. But, take it from someone who lives out here: you couldn’t have chosen a better time of year to visit. Great timing by the folks at Virgin Galactic.
Some interesting historical notes: your visit will come just short of the 9th anniversary of SpaceShipOne winning the $10 million Ansari X Prize. The little ship that could flew two suborbital missions into space on Sept. 29 and Oct. 4, 2004, fulfilling the prize requirement to fly into space twice within two weeks.
Two days before the first flight on Sept. 29, Sir Richard Branson and SpaceShipOne designer Burt Rutan announced the SpaceShipTwo project at a press conference in London. They then flew back to Mojave for the flights, which the Virgin Group sponsored.
So, you all will have some really cool anniversaries to celebrate next week. Have a great time out here in Mojave, and partying back in LA that night. Virgin Galactic has chosen a really great place for the after event. They take care of you guys really well.
Once again, welcome to our humble desert spaceport and adjoining unincorporated town! It will be great to have you out here. Actually, it’s great to have anyone come out here. We don’t get a lot of visitors normally. But, that’s another story….
Have a great time!
