Ottawa, Ontario, May 23, 2013 (AIAC PR) – In a speech given at an Aéro Montréal event today, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry, reiterated the government’s ongoing commitment to Canada’s aerospace industry. In particular, he highlighted several key measures included in Economic Action Plan 2013 that support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including steps the government has taken to implement the recommendations made by the Honourable David Emerson, Head of the Aerospace Review, in the report that Mr. Emerson presented to the government in November 2012.
Jim Quick, President and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC), issued the following statement in response to Minister Paradis’ speech today:
“We are very pleased to see that Minister Paradis remains committed to the implementation of the Emerson Report recommendations. Ensuring that our Small and Medium companies have the support and capabilities they need to compete all around the world will be critical to our industry’s future success, and we must get it right.
“Over the course of the Aerospace Review process, representatives from aerospace SMEs across the country contributed to the important work that was undertaken by the industry-led working groups. Their contribution was reflected in the Emerson Report recommendations, but this dialogue must continue.
“Through the work of its committees, AIAC continues to provide the Minister and his officials with sound advice on how the various Emerson Report recommendations should be implemented to ensure they meet the needs of the industry in a fiercely competitive global environment.
“AIAC and its members look forward to continued collaboration with the government as we seek to implement the recommendations in the coming months.”
