ORLANDO, FLA., Dec. 14th, 2012 (Earthrise Space PR) – Earthrise Space Inc. (ESI) announced today that it has obtained approval from the US State Department for a Technical Assistance Agreement (TAA) with Team Angelicvm. This agreement is a critical step, permitting the teams to work together prior to both teams simultaneously descending to the lunar surface in the Google Lunar X PRIZE race to the moon.
The TAA clears ESI to transmit data to Angelicvm in order for them to properly interface their rover with ESI’s lander, thus making it possible for the two team’s rovers to communicate with each other and with ESI’s Lunar Descent Vehicle (LDV) during their historic mission.
Angelicvm became ESI’s first lunar payload delivery customer when they signed an agreement to allow Angelicvm’s “Dandelion” rover to travel with ESI’s “Sagan” rover to the Moon. Dandelion will “piggyback” alongside the Sagan rover as it journeys to the Moon after a launch currently slated to take place in the second half of 2014. Both rovers will be attached to the LDV that will carry them to the lunar surface. Sagan will get the first crack at roving the moon’s dusty plains followed a few days after by Dandelion.
“This arrangement allows us to work closely with Team Angelicvm as both our teams develop our respective spacecraft and design them to be able to communicate with each other,” said ESI’s Chief Operating Officer Joseph Palaia. “Our ability to aggressively explore space will be dependent on us forging effective and robust partnerships, and our collaboration under this agreement will demonstrate the benefits of teamwork.”
The Google Lunar X PRIZE is set to ignite a new age of lunar exploration by offering the largest international prize of all time. A total of $30 million in prizes are available to the first privately-funded teams to safely land a rover on the surface of the Moon, have it travel 500 meters over the lunar surface, and send video, images and data back to the Earth.
Angelicvm Investments was founded in 1998 as part of a growth strategy for the Private Saint Thomas University (UST) one of the largest private educational groups in Chile. Angelicvm would later become one of the 26 teams that were accepted to compete in the Google Lunar X Prize which requires a team to reach the Moon by the end of 2015. Angelicvm’s rover, Dandelion, is a bio-inspired design that is but one effort of many among the company’s offerings. These initiatives incorporate Angelicvm’s drive to spread a message of peace, faith and hope. For more information, please visit: www.teamangelicvm.cl
