The U.S. Air Force is opening up competition for Minotaur-class launches under its has reviewed the candidates under its Orbital/Suborbital Program-3 contract:

SpaceX, Lockheed Martin, Orbital Sciences Corp. and ATK are all in the mix. United Launch Alliance (ULA), which operates a monopoly in the U.S. on large launchers, is not allowed to bid, as this program is being set aside for new entrants…

The Air Force plans to select winners by year-end, which will allow for them to compete for specific launches at a later time…
