Asteroid mining start-up Planetary Resources has received an investment from a Russian management company that focuses on clean technologies:
The management company I2BF Global Ventures has invested in Planetary Resources through one of its funds, “Vedomosti,” said its managing partner Ilya Golubovich (son of the founder of the investment company “Arbat Capital” Alexey Golubovich). This was confirmed by Planetary Resources Adviser Michael Murray, who refused to disclose details of the deal.
Among the investors in Planetary Resources are Google CEO Larry Page and former CEO of the search engine , Eric Schmidt , a former employee Microsoft and space tourist Charles Simonyi, The Perot Group chairman Ross Perot, Jr., the former head Goldman Sachs John Whitehead, and director James Cameron. Golubovic says I2BF Global Ventures is the only fund with Russian participation in the project.
He did not disclose the amount of investment, citing a confidentiality agreement. “It is not yet ten [million], but we are planning to participate in the next round,” said Vsevolod. Total I2BF Global Ventures plans to invest in the space industry, he said, up to 25% of existing assets, or more than $50 million.
