SpaceX, Boeing and ATK Top Parabolic Arc’s Commercial Crew Poll

Comments

Well, the readers of Parabolic Arc have spoken, and they have predicted that SpaceX, Boeing and ATK have received NASA commercial crew awards. The space agency has already informed the winners and will make a formal announcement on Friday morning.

SpaceX was the clear favorite with 344 votes for its Falcon 9 and Dragon combination. Boeing came in second with 299 votes for the CST-100/Atlas V system. ATK narrowly edged out Sierra Nevada for third place with 281 votes, seven more than the Colorado-based builder of the Dream Chaser shuttle.

The mysterious Blue Origin was a very distant fifth with a mere 46 votes, 8 percent of the total. The company’s score was more than three times that of Excalibur Almaz, favored by only 13 voters.

A couple of early reports indicate that Parabolic Arc’s voters mostly got it correct. The stories indicate that SpaceX and Boeing will receive full awards with Sierra Nevada– and not ATK — receiving a half award. Of course, we won’t know for sure until tomorrow.

I would like to thank everyone for voting. And, always remember the Parabolic Arc motto:

VOTE EARLY! VOTE OFTEN! JUST VOTE, DAMMIT! VOTE!

Thanks again!
