LAS CRUCES, NM (Spaceport America PR) – The Bureau of Land Management will host an open house public forum to field comments and suggestions as part of an Environmental Assessment (EA) to analyze the potential effects from construction and operation of a 26-mile southern road from Doña Ana County to the Spaceport America facility.
The meeting will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 4, 2012, at the Hatch High School cafeteria at 170 E. Herrera Road in Hatch, where members of the project team will be available to discuss the proposed road and take questions. Comment forms are provided below for anyone who would like to submit suggestions for the project.
A right-of-way application for the road was granted to the BLM from Doña Ana County and Sierra County to improve two existing county roads that will collectively create an all-weather access road to the spaceport.
The project would involve minor adjustments to allow for safety and to bypass private property, and may also include the installation of a right-of-way fence and interpretive pull-outs along the Camino Real National Historic Trail that runs through both counties.
Comments can be submitted at any time during the preparation of the EA. If you would like your comments considered for inclusion in the Draft EA, those comments must be submitted by June 22, 2012. Comments can be submitted electronically, via U.S. mail, or at the public forum on June 4.
