Brazil, Ukraine to Boost Cooperation in Space, Technology and Defense

McTier PR:Brazil and Ukraine have decided to deepen the strategic partnership and strengthen cooperation in the spheres of space and military science. This was discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation in Brazil, Mercadante, with Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov.

Mercadante said the strategic cooperation in the space between the countries and expressed interest in signing the relevant contracts for 20-30 years with the possibility of private sector involvement.

In particular, he noted the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the Cyclone-4 project.

“We identified a schedule in which the rocket has to fly on November 15, 2013. It will be a national holiday of our Republic. At this point, there will be a world congress of scientists in Brazil. And so the good standard of strategic partnership with Ukraine would be created,” he said.

In addition, he said, Brazil is interested in training in areas of high technology and engineering, in particular under the Programme Science without Borders.

Mercadante also pointed out that Brazil is ready to develop cooperation in the defense industry with the possibility of joint production: “Ukraine has high technology and rich history in the field of defense, and that is a partner that gives us confidence for the long term “.

Mykola Azarov said he was convinced of the importance of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Brazil in different directions

“We see Brazil as a partner very seriously. Our work will contribute to the development of both nations. And we, political leaders, must do everything for this purpose,” he noted.

The head of government underlined great potential for cooperation in space industry. He said that Ukraine is a promising partner in the area, adding scientific developments and technologies to practical results.

According to Mykola Azarov, the implementation of the Cyclone-4 project confirms this.

“We attach great importance to the project. It is one of the few projects that will lead to the creation of a launch site in your country,” said Mykola Azarov.

The prime minister stressed that the development of space industry requires a large number of experts, through the possibility of Brazilians studying in Ukrainian universities. Azarov also said the speech of his interlocutor about the opportunity to acquire knowledge of Brazilians in Ukraine in the sphere of information technologies (IT).

“This is the high level of training of specialists. The proof is that our people are working in leading companies in the world,” he noted, adding that Ukraine and Brazil can interact in several areas of science and technology.
