Senate to keep NASA funding safe
A key Senate panel approved a NASA budget Wednesday that would retain nearly every dollar sought by President Barack Obama in his $18.7 billion request for the agency.
The vote sets up a battle with the House, which last week passed a bill that would slash more than $500 million from the White House recommendation. Most of the cuts target NASA’s human space flight budget.
“We do not agree with the House strategy,” said Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Maryland, who oversees the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science. “We agree with the president’s budget.”
The committee approved the measure on a voice vote.
