A conference starting Wednesday at McGill University will tackle what to do about the estimated 13,000 to 20,000 pieces of smashed-up satellites and rocket bits floating above our heads…

Brachet said there is hope that the 49 countries with a presence in space will sign a code of conduct by the end of this year that would prevent shooting satellites within the general altitude where most working satellites orbit…

The code of conduct would also promote regional partnerships to share responsibility of satellites, he said.
