FAA Assesses Proposed Cecil Field Spaceport
The Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s dream of landing a commercial spaceport to accommodate reusable launch vehicles at Cecil Field moved one step closer to reality this week with the release of a Federal Aviation Administration released of a report finding no significant environmental impacts.
JAA is proposing to operate a spaceport at its Westside airport that could handle launching up to 52 horizontal, reusable launch vehicles a year.
The release of the draft environmental assessment signals the start of the public comment period, which will end May 20. The document is available online at JAA.aero/AirSys/CF.aspx or the FAA’s Web site.
