Their thunder stolen by a leak to The Daily Mail, XCOR introduced its first space tourist, London-based banker Per Wimmer, and said that it has 22 reservations for suborbital flights aboard its Lynx vehicle beginning in 2011.
The Danish investment banker will experience several minutes of weightlessness while flying to 37 miles above the Earth aboard the two-person vehicle. He will experience about three minutes of weightlessness.
The cost of a ticket – if you’re interested – is $95,000, with a $20,000 deposit required. This is about half the prize of Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo, which will fly six passengers about 30 miles higher. Those customers will experience about five minutes of weightlessness.
To book a ticket, please contact Rocketship Tours – XCOR’s official agent. Orbital Outfitters will be providing the spacesuits.
