A new non-profit group, JPL Space Foundation, has been created to promote space elevators. The Georgia-based charity, which is not associated with that JPL, was created over the summer by John P. Lee (who lends his initials to the name).
According to the group’s website:
“The first objective of the Foundation will be to support research toward the development, construction, and deployment of earth’s first Space Elevator. The elevator should make access to space a hundred to a thousand times cheaper than rocket power….
“Another major objective of the Foundation, once the elevator is operational, is to support a large scale study of the affects of the space environment on the average person.”
For more information, visit the group’s website. The Estes Park Trail Gazette has a profile of Mr. Lee.
