Space Florida Actively Engaged in Growing State’s Aerospace Economy

Space Florida Press Release

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Feb. 20, 2008) – Space Florida is actively engaged with dozens of commercial space companies who have expressed an interest in expanding existing operations, or bringing new business to Florida, and state officials are confident in their ability to support these entrepreneurial ventures.

“Today, Space Florida is working closely with 47 different space-related firms who are pursuing an aggressive path and forging opportunities that open up the commercial space market in Florida,” said Steve Kohler, President of Space Florida.

“These companies want to be a part of developing the future direction of commercial space, and do it here in Florida,” Kohler said. “With our varied collection of economic incentives and customer services, we are able to provide tailored assistance based on the needs of the company.”

Among the services discussed with potential customers: concept of operations design, simulation and modeling, flight safety systems, facilities and financing.

Space Florida also offers newcomers to the Eastern Range a complementary mentoring program for working with the U.S. Air Force 45th Space Wing to complete all the necessary paperwork for conducting operations from the Eastern Range.

These services are provided through CASPER, Space Florida’s Customer Assistance Service Program for the Eastern Range.

“Once we understand their business model and needs, we are able to deploy Space Florida’s assistance to the fullest extent our legislative authorities allow,” Kohler said.

Space Florida also is looking ahead to NASA’s Crew Space Transportation System needs, which seeks a contractor to provide help in transferring astronauts to and from the International Space Station after the Space Shuttle retires in 2010. Space Florida is prepared to support all companies who request assistance in writing their proposals.
